I'm not sure what you're asking for.
An alignment of the distributor drive?
Or a static timing setting?
First thing I would do is align the distributor drive to the 5 degree position according to the attached photo. Note that the slot in the drive portion is asymmetrical and that you align it in the proper position.
Then I would static time the car to 5 degrees BTDC. After it starts and warms up, I would set the timing to 22 degrees BTDC @ 1500 RPM.
I do not like the instruction to just "turn the distributor until it starts".
If it doesn't start at 5 degrees BTDC (static), then something else is wrong.
