I'd like to offer an similar but slightly different method offered in the link Ron posted. This method does not require that the ignition system be operational (but only works with points type ignition)--or even that the car have a working battery or coil. Follow the steps as far as installation of the distributor drive, distributor and set the points gap--set the crank marks to the setting preferred (10 degrees initial will work well with a B18). Back off the distributor so the points are closed. NOW--slip a thin piece of paper between the points and as you rotate the distributor forward pull up on the paper--when it will slip out the timing is set. -- Dave
