Curious. What would cause the bubbles in a 240? Head gasket??

I ask because I just finished fixing my Ford Ranger 3.0 ...(yes I know it is a different system) after fighting bubbles coming up in the overflow tank for months, with overheating.

It was the head gasket (had both sides done on the v6).
