You know I think I have read about reversed wire connections before on the sender from a certain brand.
I also think Art had posted this information before as he found it on his own sender if I remember it correctly. Stands to reason that he makes his two cents worth of advice, turn into a nickel. (:)

As far as that yellow wire it has beat me up twice on two different cars. My '78 and my '86.
On my '78 it convinced me to change a head gasket because it had a tiny seepage.
On the '86 it was touching some other frayed wire inside that ill fated engine harness.
That engine harness is made like the old phones, "party" line" days, where lines got tapped into all the time.

So don't feel so bad for yourself, you have company with buying new stuff and assuming it's a good product.
