Challenging Ignition Problem: 1987 Volvo 245 GL

Easy ? Yes. Put the car up on a lift and use an impact wrench to loosen the fittings. Using a counterhold wrench as Dave suggests will improve your odds of not kinking the little pipe between the pump and the filter. I am successful most of the time.

Otherwise, make sure the car can not, absolutely can not, fall on you.

I would suggest seeing if your local Volvo parts supplier has or can get the pipe between the pump and the filter (Volvo pn 1312297) before you start. Also, the Bosch pumps tend to run quieter than the typical aftermarket, last a long time, and you don't have to cut the wiring harness. A new fuel filter goes without saying.
