B20 & M40 identification 140-160

Volvo didn't cast production numbers into their blocks, but they did hand stamp a number on the side of the block.

I have never found a numerical reference, but I've heard someone in Sweden does have access to some information that might help. But it ain't free and AFAIK, the service is for identifying details about a specific car or VIN, not an engine.

It depends on which manifold(s) are on the motor and their condition.

Volvo put the extra large output flange on M40s mounted in 145 station wagons. The extra weight acts like a flywheel and adds inertia.
