I fail to see how NM DMV can "cancel" titles (admittedly with incorrect info) in other states...I would imagine the best they can do is send an Alert of some sort to those states (who will make things difficult for those owners)...this issue comes up occasionally and when someone uses the only numbers they can easily find and see (without removing Radiator) to register a vehicle...it rather surprises me that the MNR* at your DMV keyed in on it now, where its just a renewal (here in Connecticut, the renewal would be simply to send in the fee [state's gotta get their money!]...I guess its associated with an inspection in NM).

You might have to remove Radiator, take a picture, ask a police officer to confirm picture came from your car, and present this to the MNR* at your DMV...maybe it won't tax them too much and they'll accept this...maybe!
