Hi,
The belt or the loading on it, makes more sense, than a bearing the size of a half dollar coin getting the attention of a neighborhood.
Yes, there is a life expectancy on all rubber lives but that has to vary wildly. If you see an o ring inside some joints, for who knows how long, you wonder if you can put them back in. It’s mostly an environmental consequence of exposures. Some want to say, tire salesmen, it’s recommended to around seven years for tires. Tires are not exposed to engine heat like belts. The sun, acid rain with dash’s of road salt “rolled” in, can only be a good recipe, to cause rotting, let alone the road hazards!
You brought up a nice thought about the radiator hoses. I have about the same experience with them as you do. They just go on and on with hardly any change in them.
I have tried to research them and the only conclusion I can come up with is they are NOT made by GATES or UNIROYAL standards.
I have not used the McKay brand but I’m very suspicious that they are or were the vendor suppler to Volvo! The company is centrally located in Australia and Volvo shares its wealth around the world in those days. Volvo beat the bushes well when they were shopping for suppliers back during the 240’s run! From McKay’s web site this rubber material company strides to meet or surpass the industrial needs for the best in rubber products, even outside of this product line. I believe FCP sells these hoses too for this very reason. If I ever do another order with them I will try them to give them the sniff and feel test despite no writing on them. Trouble is, I keep finding Volvo ones in the Picknpull. Is amazing how many put new OEM stuff on and then junk it?
The Pickens are slim for that stuff and whole cars lately. By the time I run though my stash I’ll be ready for electric cars or not be able to drive anyway?
Keep your hands busy and the person’s mind connected to them, will be too! (:)
