140 gas gauge 140-160 1968

Bought a new gas gauge for in the gas tank of a 1968 140 . Checked the fuses, I would imagine #4 fuse gives power to the instrument cluster gauge . Fuse is OK. Ran a jumper from gas tank gauge to a better ground in the trunk.
Still not getting any movement on the dash gauge inside.
