1983 244 Turbo temperature gauge going high (what?) 200

Yes, the gauge regulator IC in the 83 stabilizes both fuel and temp gauges at 10 volts. I think I read the OP swapped the chip because it is so easy to do, so eliminated its failure as a reason for the high readings.

So far I've never come across a documented failure of a gauge with this symptom, but it isn't impossible. If it happens to me, I'll have some notes taken from a properly working set of gauges to compare:
