You guess that your CPS cable is in an RF rich environment? The sheath and all is fine? If too much noise, I'd check earth connections and verify potential to ground is 4 ohms and less. The ground are not so trusty on Volvo as they can get rusty. Found the headlamp grounds are crusty of rusty. A twist (loose, then tight, with a lkithium grease spray, no NoOx / DeOx or your penetrox here.) of the bolt for the passenger headlamp helps. Not the solution. Treated grounds with NoOx and DeOx some years ago and a gentle loosen / tighten twist of the earth / ground bolt screw thingy. 1991 240 sets owtdoors all the thyme. That 240 may call me a 'bastard' at times.

The ground connection may come through the wire harness end of the CPS connector to provide RF farraday cage like protection from them CB and shortwave radios and engine control spreading propaganda about eggnog like spurious RF energies.

So no CPS connection to ground at where the 10mm bolt head screw at the bell housing bracket and through the wire harness? I only recall the pickup coil CPS connector pinout for 1 and 2 t6ransceive signal with the wire harness and ECU. A floating ground, then? Some RF protection in the cable sheath?
