Definately retiring the impact wrench for this application!
Don't like to roll the dice w/ expensive parts that are nor easily serviced. I still cringe when I a shop tighten lug-nuts w/ an impact wrench. Seen some warped rotors because the bolts were not tightened evenly or w/ the wrong torque spec.
The issue with the cast crank-shaft makes perfect sense. I guess it is kind of like smashing a cast-iron pipe fittings w/ a sledge hammer. Looks impossible, but they bust w/ relative ease (maybe not for me).
