I had two thoughts after my last reply:
1/ if you want to keep the vx3- you can have the head milled about 2mm- .79 thou. and then you will have a more appropiate compression for the vx. Also you will have retarded the cam by a couple or three deg's so that you can move the cam one tooth (9.5 deg) advanced so that you have a net of about 6deg advance. The only disadvantage is that you will need mid or premium gas.
2/ for a heavy stock auto car you can try a turbo "t" cam. Great gains in power up to about 28-2900 rpm. Equal to stock 'm' from about 2900- 3400 and loss from there up. Also gives great gas mileage. You can get a "t" for either b21/23 or b230, too.
PS I am also from near edmonton ab canada... home of fast volvos... um.... 'maybe"
