Thanks Mike, You are from my home town. My parents still live in Greenville NC. I graduated ECU. You are correct the chilton book is not very good. I bought it about 3 years ago. I like the haynes books better. I am very much an amateur mechanic. I printed out the diagnostic info you sent. I will follow the directions and see what happens. I thought there was a necessary tool for reading the codes. I also have a 90 245 B230F engine. For this, I bought the Bently Bible.
