This isn't directly help for you - but if your car has the original SU carbs pumping the accellerator pedal doesn't do anything as there is no accellerator pump on an SU. Unless you car now has 1 or 2 Webers on it that is...

I'd go over the ignition and double check the point gap - possibly try swapping the coil.
