Why not start the engine first 200 '84

Yes you exceeded 125 amps. The load placed on the starter and battery doing what you did would be very high. Far beyond the design. Yo be sure this "in gear start" is not the recommended procedure. I once drove a VW bug with a broken clutch cable using that method every time I stopped, even shifted into 2nd, 3rd and 4th by matching the revs, downshifted too.

Never heard of an in line fuse, is it a fusible link? Not on any Volvo circuit diagrams that I have seen.
