Torque converter? 700 89

Hi,

I have a 89 745 wagon, automatic and lately Ive been getting a harsh shake when I change from 1st to 2nd. Then it wont really engage 2nd until I let off or until its done shaking. It only happenes on fairly hard to hard acceleration. The only way to avoid it is to let off the gas when I know its going to switch gears. A buddy of mine said it might be attributed to the torque converter...Do u guy's think thatz what the problem is? Any other idea's about whats causing the problem? Thanx in advanced...
