You sound like me. I just bought a 1970 144s from a guy in Los Angeles CA and had it shipped back to New Jersey. I don't regret it either, the car is completely rust free. You can't find cars like that here on the east coast.
Just in case your interested, I used Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS) to ship my car and it costed around $700, I had it in 4 days. Of course, if you want to see the country a coast-to-coast drive like that can be a lot of fun. I've taken that ride 4 times in my life. It's an experience you'll never forget, especially if you take the necessary time to see the sites along the way. I remember driving alone from Topika Kansas to Wheeling West Virgina in one day (14 hours, 1600 miles) in a 1972 Camaro during trip #4. I'd never do that again...
Good luck and keep us posted. As far as your K&N question, I really don't know, I'm running the Weber conversion on my B20B.
