The one way valve at or near the fuel pump may not be closing and therefore, as the car sits for a few hours, the fuel runs back into the tank rather than remaining in the line under pressure. The first start of the morning may be, in effect, pressurizing the line but there is insufficient fuel and/or pressure to keep the car running. You can test by either connecting a fuel pressure gauge, running the car for a few minutes, turn it off and then watching what happens to the pressure over a few hours time. Alternatively, you could turn the ignition key to the run position a few times, without actually starting the car. Then start it.

This works on D jetronic equipped cars because the fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds, shuts itself off and then you start the car. I dont know if it works the same way in your model.
