Knock sensor being difficult - cause found! 200 83

Thanks Abe! Original problem was - random timing retardation causing uneven power delivery. Suspected knock sensor/wiring problem. Knock sensor did not have correct voltage and did not seem to respond to whacking the engine.

Per Abe's advice, I re-split wire from knock sensor to control unit and drove 'sensorless' - no change in behavior. Confident that there was no danger of damaging my spare ECU, I swapped it in and put key to position II (car not running) - I got 2.5V on the knock sensor wire! Then took a test spin - problem is cured! I suspect when I open the original control unit I will find a bad solder joint at or near the knock sensor pin. Thanks to all who responded!
