Your '88 760T has an independent rear suspension. This means the suggestion to replace the springs and use standard shocks isn't a good option. 3rd party suppliers have self leveling Nivomats for a lot less than a Volvo dealer.

If you're going to replace them yourself, get as much height on the frame as you can when you jack it up. You have to drop the old shock out of a narrow hole in the trailing arm. Other than that, it's a real easy job.
