hey dan
when i got my 1988 765ti from my brother it had just had tranny service from a local dealer and shifted 1-2 at 3500 under LIGHT throttle.
i readjusted the kick down cable as per the book, problem was,... the small lead stopper (like split ball fishing weight) had moved on the cable, if i recall i slid the stopper towards the cable spool, then GENTLY pulled on the cable till i felt a definate LITE reistance, I then slid the stopper untill it was about 1/8" from the adjustor and crimped it. The book says that with gas to the floor the stopper should be about 2" from adjustor. I still wanted lower shift points, 5500 rpm at full throttle (stock w/265K) so i slackened cable some more. The haynes book describes this adjustment fairly well but if the stopper is in the wrong place then it just doesnt work. best of luck
