The original distributor in my '68 B18D DOES NOT have a vacuum advance and should be set at 22 degrees BTDC at 1500 RPM. I don't usually find that any changes are required from there. As the points wear, some adjustment may be necessary. The adjustment bolt is perpendicular to the distributor shaft just under the body of the distributor. It's the 1500 RPM part that usually causes some confusion. I run 93 octane and don't notice any pinging or knock.
