Whoa there, 'CHECK ENGINE' ??????? 700 1990

If you have an instrument lamp lit that says CHECK ENGINE then that's a whole different kettle of fish than the SERVICE reminder lamp. The latter is the oil change reminder (and resets as noted. It comes on for a few minutes at the start of driving. The former indicates that there either is or was a fault condition or unusual running condition detected by the engine management system (ECU). The fault needs to be identified and dealt with (see the FAQ).
