check engine light is on 900 1991

HELP!!!

I got the check engine light on on my 940SE, took it to Volvo and was told it was the O2 sensor, I buy that, it is running lean... the problem is that i need to take it in for smog testing, and the smog nazis will not even test it if a light is on. Is there a way to shut off the light for a few days.....
