service light comes on when started 700 1989

I recently bought a 1989 740gl and I so far have done all the maintainance myself. I have no manuals for this car and I am having a problem. Every time I start the car, the service light comes on. It only stays on for a short time. I know that some manufactures have a method of turning the light off,( ie. hit gas pedal 4 time to the floor before you start). Is there a simular method for my volvo.

If anyone knows how to turn the service light out please help me.
