Odometer is doesn't work all the time 700 87

I checked the FAQ's but nothing quite like this. The speedo works fine but the odometer just stops working. Sometimes on a long drive hundreds of miles, sometimes on shorter trips. It always starts again eventually but I would like a more accurate milage gauge.
