Dennis,

If you remove the start wire, the thin one going to the solenoid on the starter and it still runs the solenoid is either stuck in the start position or the main contacts have welded themselves together.

If pulling the start wire stops it you have a problem with the ignition switch.If it is a Bosch starter there will be a part number on the solenoid

and a Bosch agent should be able to supply a replacement for quite a bit less than a complete motor.
