I wash my engine once a year as part of my spring-cleaning/tuneup/tirechange ritual.
You seem like you've done it before, so don't be shy just because of the turbo. I don't spray directly at the turbo as there's no reason to wash the turbo itself, but do stick the nozzle down PAST everything, on both sides of the engine, and clean the oil-cooler pipes etc... don't just clean the top! I usally spray down any messy areas with de-greaser while waiting in line at the self-serv-carwash...
I found that a section of the hood "blanket" had become oil-soaked due to a previous oil leak, and after attacking it with degreaser and the high-pressure hose, it's looked beautiful ever since!
A nice clean engine room is the best way to see where/if you have any leaks!
