Thanks for the post. I think I'll probably pull the existing sensor first, clean it up, and then reseat it and the bolt, throwing some thread lock on to try and get it seated firmly.
Is there any way, short of pulling apart the engine, to silence valve slap at all that you know of? Is it indicative of anything in particular or just a condition of older engines? Would it help to torque the knock sensor at the low end of spec (spec is 8-11 I believe?), possibly lessening the effect of older engine noise on the sensor? Any possible negative side-effects of this on the sensor and engine (i.e., the sensor could fail to trigger, etc.)?
