I think that did it! 700 1989

Left work eary today to determined to fix this thing. I was fairly convinced that my problem was the FPR. Did a little more reading Swedishbrick FAQs and some historical posts here. (yes I tend to over analyze) Anyway, I removed the vac hose to the FPR. It did not seem like there was an over-powering gas smell and it seemed dry. I disconnected the fuel line after removing the gas cap and blew into it. Tank bubbled/no restriction. Put it back on and plugged the vac hose, grabbed a towel (NO SMOKING HERE) and had my wife start the car. Nothing. I was expecting gas to come out of the failed FPR. It did not happen. I half wanted to to go buy one anyway to be sure but at $53 from my local dealer I thought I might try the old Air Mass Meter the guy I brought the car from took off a wrecked one he had. Easy job why not. (Though who designed the air box for this thing! Jammed a little close to the intercooler hose isn't it?!?!) I started it up, put it in gear and it stalled. Damn. Figuring it was all gunked up from the rich running I was determined to get it on the road. One more stall and it was running. By the end of the block it was running fairly well. I headed for the Interstate to see if I could get it moving. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Drove around for about 20 miles and each mile was better thatn the last. This thing diddnt drive this well when I bought it!!! (Last Saturday!) If I knew this I would have paid him what he was asking for it!! I can't believe the power this thing actually has! I should say that is is dark and fairly cold here so I am not sure I have completely solved the problem. I do notice a puff of smoke when I hit the turbo. It looks white but it is very hard to tell at night. Being my first Turbo I do not know if that is normal or close to normal. It does not appear that I am getting any smoke at other times but again it is very hard to see. Tomorrow will tell. I am taking it to work and should be able to tell in daylight if I really found the problem. One interesting note. The AMM removed did not have an adjustment screw as the on I put on but had the same Bosch number (....007) Thanks guys for all your help! Sorry again for the long post but fixing this (if I actually did!) is a great relief! Any further advice is appreciated!
