I mean resistance to your pull. You should only have to click about 3 times before you start to feel resistance to your pull. Then go and pull it up firmly and see if it holds your car in D.

You may also want to lift up the rear end of the car, release the handbrake, and make sure you can turn the wheels. This is to make sure the brake is releasing.
