The radius rod probably bent and compressed enough to make the 3mm difference. It's long enough so that the right bend could hack that length out of the overall length of the rod. Some shops will heat and bend front end parts, but they're getting few and far between.

The radius rod should be easily available. If they need an oversized rod, then the problem is elsewhere such as the mounting bushings, which is a very common issue.
