what does b230ft stand for?

The "B" stands for "benzene," which is their designation for gasoline. In a like fashion, a Diesel engine starts with "D." No doubt Volvo's wind-powered vehicles will be designated with an "S" for sail, and the number will indicate the size. Volvo's smallest vehicles are designated with a "G" for gerbils. The number will indicate the number of tiny feet furiously hammering the treadmill. Thus, if your Volvo has "G12" power, the mileage is great, but don't expect to go anywhere fast. And carry a few spares with you.

On your car, the "230" designates the displacement in centiliters, obviously.

The "F" somehow indicates the combination of compression ratio, cam profiles, fuel management system, and so on, that influences power, performance, and emissions. Personally, I interpret "F" to mean finicky, particularly when it comes to relays and wiring harnesses.

And, as you know, "T" stands for timid.
