Matt,

It sounds like your SRS light has been on for sometime. For what it's worth, mine came on last year. I assumed this meant my airbag system had failed and would no longer work. Two weeks later it blew up in my face pulling into a parking lot. Volvo wasn't too concerned. "It's a 12 year old car" So be warned that a failed system can be a little dangerous.
