Don Foster is right on with his white out recommendation (it is also known as LDA, Liquid Dumb Ass, by some of my friends).

Yes, you could use an LED to replace the light, but it would be a lot more trouble than it is worth. One approach would be to fit the diode and resistor into the lamp socket for the high beam indicator. That would be a lot of work. Yes, LEDs have polarity. A 750 ohm resitor in series with the LED is correct for 12 volts, but I have also used a 680 ohm resitor and it worked fine. Radio Shack sells part number 276-085A for $2US, which is a green LED with the resistor and is rated for 12 volt applications. The red lead is to positive, or course. You could glue one of these into the instrument cluster and wire it externally. But that is much more work than Don's LDA method.
