Foster had a good piece of advice--if the system wasn't empty, why vacuum it out?

If it was, the moisture that was introduced should be vacuumed out. ALso, having a system working with air in it is less efficient. You get better cooling efficiency and longer compressor life (no moisture). Those are some reasonably sound benefits to vacuuming out the system.
