This may sound dumb, but what was wrong with the 83 turbo car? What's wrong with the 86 wagon's motor? Is rust an issue? I've replaced all of the body panels on my 84 245 except one door and the quarters with newer ones. Then got it painted. Body work is much more sensible than a motor swap to an unknown wiring or fuel system that may not even work. Maybe you are fixing up the wrong car.
