Overdrive Problem 1985 M-46 700

Had similar problems with a 245 and ended up replacing the overdrive with a junkyard unit.

Of course, you really don't "need" the overdrive. I got the used O/D on the cheap and I wouldn't even consider spending $300-600 to have it rebuilt.

There is a slight mileage penalty for driving in 4th gear, but the 245 only does about 3000rpm @ 65mph. It would take you years to "pay" for any improvements in fuel economy that you might gain from rebuilding the o/d.
