I'll agree with Warren -- take 'em up on their free offer, get their list in writing, and then tell them exactly what you think of them and that you're taking your car to a trusted independant garage for confirmation -- and probably any needed work.

A timing belt replacement generally takes around 90 minutes or a bit less. A first-timer will take twice that. I think you have every right to ask them for an accounting of the 3.6 hours.
