I just went through this on my 1990 780... (right down to the Ate Powerdiscs...)
My front pins were so badly corroded I could not move them in their bores at all, and so could not seperate them from the bracket at all.
I called several people about getting a bracket, and nobody had them, except for Voluparts. I got the brackets from them for $30 each, and pins, loaded/lubed and ready to rock, for $10 each. Fair price for my peace of mind to know I won't chew up my nice new Powerdiscs....
Making sure the caliper pins are working properly, and cleaning any rust buildup off the hub before mounting the new rotor, are the two most important factors. (Besides a good bleed job; can't speak highly enough of the Motive Products Powerbleeder.)
