you'll notice excessive vibration at higher rpm's and speeds (around 65-75mph it gets annoying and kind of hums)

additionally, you'll notice that your fan will sit lower in the fan shroud and be off center.

there was another method of checking by measuring something with the crossbeam but i can't recall.

basically, when your mounts go bad they start sinking so your engine droops lower and lower.
