Hi Megan,
Cifford's unhealthy condition could be caused by a number of things...
Vaccuum hose leak - check all the hoses for cracks and make sure they are all attached properly.
Injector seal deterioration - If the rubber seals on the injectors have cracked and/or shrunk with age too much air could be entering the cylinder and the fuel/air mix could be too lean. With the car idling warm, but not hot, use a spray bottle to spray a bit of water at each injector port. If the idle gets worse the seals are faulty.
Idle adjustment screw moved - you can manually adjust the idle rpm's up by adjusting the screw. This may smooth out the idle if it's set too low.
Faulty spark plug or plug wire - with the engine idling rough, remove one plug wire and if the idle stays the same you know it isn't running on that cylinder. If it stumbles you know it is OK. Use plastic handled tool to remove wires so you don't get a shock.
Could also be related to a combination of other things all adding up (dirty air & fuel filters, dirty injectors, poor rotor & distributor cap condition, fuel pump & system problems)
A few things to try.
