After the ignition has been switched off for at least one minute unplug the connection to the Air Mass Meter. It's on the intake, midway between the air cleaner and the throttle body. Don't unplug or reconnect the AMM if the ignition is on or has been just switched off. If it's the AMM it should go into the "Limp Home" mode and you can limp home. When my 86 245's AMM went out it would start ... sputter ... back fire through the intake and kill when the throttle was opened.
So this could be an AMM problem. Check the thermostat in the air box if it is becasue they stick open to the hot air side and this is suspected of frying a lot of Brick's AMMs. No sense replacing this expensive piece and kill it again with hot air off the exhaust manifold. Good Luck.
