It's been awhile since I had to play with the fuel system, and never on this car. I tried to be a good brickboard citizen and search the archives first, but no luck... So:
My 81 245 (non-turbo) died on the way to work. It acted like it was out of gas (it's not)and wouldn't restart.
I started by checking both the #5 and #7 fuses. Both were intact, and I spun them a couple times to try to ensure a good contact, but my little wire brush is at home in the toolbox.
After a couple attempts to start, I got a loud howling noise out of one pump or the other (sounded like the fuel pump wasn't getting fuel?) Would this sound be caused if the prepump is working and the main pump isn't?
Perhaps I have relay problems? Somewhere at home I have a couple of relays out of an 80. Are they the same? (I hope so, since I can't solder worth a darn)
Where are they located in an 81? Any other ideas?
After work I'll head back to the car with some tools and the relay, I'm just looking for ideas of where to begin.
Thanks
