The return of the 122 electrical Gremlins...

Well, I THOUGHT I had it fixed .... but guess those little buggers aren't quite as easy to lay to rest as I hoped ..... Now working on my third GM Alternator and still having weirdnesses. I have a sneaking suspicion that it has boiled down to the usual 122 fusebox problems .... but I am balking at spending the $60 US plus shipping to get a rebuilt one from SWEM .... By the time it gets to Canada I'm looking at better than $100 Cdn .... sooooo how do I go about checking the fuse box and if necessary cleaning and soldering that puppy? Maybe I should look in the 120 FAQ and maybe the procedure is there .....

I have just installed a voltmeter to assist in trying to figure out what is going on and I have noticed the following .... When the car is first started the voltmeter reads 14 V(+-)and then if I don't switch on any accessories it will eventually settle down to about 13.5V .... Now comes the fun .... SOMETIMES when I turn on the headlights .... voltage stays up .... but sometimes it drops until it is 12V or less .... if I stop, shut off all accessories and restart the voltage usually goes back up to 14V+ and then works back down to 13.5V as before... usually though, if I have had the big voltage drop when running the headlights, if I go right back to the lights ... I get the big drop back. I have used spray electrical contact cleaner and really hosed the fuse box thoroughly with it, and spun the fuses in their places. All accessories with the possible exception of the heater fan work as designed ... only have ONE speed on the heater fan and a HUGE power draw ... but that may or may not be related.

So am I right in suspecting the fuse block ? Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated....
