Well, after 3 alternators, a new alternator belt and much cursing over the last few years, I do believe that we have finally vanquished the little buggers. The solution turned out to be so darned simple .... isn't 20/20 hindsight great? What was causing the whole weird panoply of problems turned out to be that the adjustment bar for tightening the fan belt was too damn short so we couldn't get enough tension on the belt. We ended up cutting it and splicing in about an inch ... which allows us to now tighten the belt enough so that when the belt gets wet or happens to get oil on it, it no longer slips. Yes George, I remember you saying something about not believing how tight the fanbelt on a B20 has to be .... the car has made a believer out of me !!! I just got back from a nice drive in the dark and the voltmeter I installed the other day sat solidly at about 14 volts for the whole trip ..... and WHAT a DIFFERENCE that having the proper voltage going to those BOSCH H4's makes !!!!
Old VOLVOs never die .... They just become VERY COOL !!!!
