I am sure that some of the guru's here will be able to add to this list, but here are a few differences.
The B18D in the 122 series has a lower compression ratio than the B18B in the 1800 series. Not exactly sure of the of the internal differences, but it seems to be mainly in the head clearance and cam shaft.
Most of the 122's I have worked on have not had the M41 four speed tranny with overdrive. This was standard equipment on the 1800 series. The main shaft in a M40 is shorter than the main shaft in the M41, but most internal parts are interchangeable.
The front and rear suspension is basically the same, as is the rear end. The steering is also compatable.
