The pre-90 car is before my area of expertise, but on the later 7 & 9 cars (with composite headlamps) you can unbolt the quarters. There is a significant amount of built-in adjustment in the quarter panels (also in the older models from what little experience I have) so you might have to do one or two lineups before it looks "right". Simple to do, however, and the tool requirement is minimal as well.
