As Mr. Sargent mentioned, there were quite a few threads on the BB a couple years back about the quality (or lack thereof) of Volvo's "remanufactured" engines. IIRC, one poor fellow went through 3 motors before he got one that ran correctly.
Did the engine completely seize up? Absolutely no compression on all cylinders?
I'm thinking that since you'll have to pull it anyway, you might want to consider taking it to a local engine rebuilder. They might be able to salvage the existing motor (those blocks are virtually bullet-proof) and replace just the affected parts (head?).
Obviously, this is all conjecture on my part. You know the condition of the motor better than we do, so if this is not feasible, I apologize.
If'n you do need a new motor...you might try an 'auto recycler' (heretofore: junkyard!! sheesh...gotta be p.c. you know). Low mileage 93-95 motor would be best.
